Couples therapy

Therapy for the modern couple

You’ve been feeling disconnected from your partner

Once upon a time, you felt close to your partner. Your partner knew everything going on with you, and you with them. You had the type of relationship all of your friends wanted and your relationship felt strong, fulfilling, and exciting.

Now, with everything that you have going on in your lives — time apart focused on your careers, the stress of raising kids, growing apart — you can’t believe how much your relationship has changed. You wonder how you will ever feel connected to them again. The gap feels so immense sometimes and you don’t know what to do.

Find your path to love + connection again

Couples therapy in Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC

At Hope + Wellness, we want you to know that you are not alone. We work with couples who are recently engaged, going through infidelity or recovering from affairs, same-sex couples, or married couples. We truly believe that it is possible for you to reconnect with your partner and that difficulties can be used to move you toward greater growth and wholeness together as a couple. We are passionate about helping couples find ways to communicate, show appreciation, and rebuild their connection.

Potential benefits of couples therapy

There are no guaranteed results in therapy, but when you seek therapy with us, some of the benefits can include:

  • learn tools for healthy communication

  • rebuild emotional connection

  • grow as a couple

  • discuss current areas of improvement to build a stable foundation for the future

  • strengthen intimacy

  • regain the warmth and support of your relationship

  • resolve issues causing distress

  • move together in alignment

For all of us, the person we love most in the world, the one who can send us soaring joyfully into space, is also the person who can send us crashing back to earth. All it takes is a slight turning away of the head or a flip, careless remark. There is no closeness without this sensitivity. If our connection with our mate is safe and strong, we can deal with these moments of sensitivity. Indeed, we can use them to bring our partner even closer. But when we don’t feel safe and connected, these moments are like a spark in a tinder forest. They set fire to the whole relationship.

Getting started with couples therapy

we are passionate about providing both you and your partner with a supportive therapy space that is genuine and authentic — where you each truly feel cared for. a space that is human and compassionate, where you each feel deeply seen and accepted.

Therapy at Hope + Wellness offers a healthy, safe, and compassionate space for you and your partner to explore concerns you have in your life and things you feel as if you could improve as a couple. You and your partner will each feel safe and supported as you learn healthy ways to communicate, rebuild intimacy, manage conflict, prepare for the next phase of your relationship, or navigate stressors such as parenting disagreements. Together, you and your therapist will discuss any concerns you and your partner are experiencing, explore unhealthy communication, beliefs, or conflict management, and replace them with healthier ways to rebuild your relationship.

We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.
