Young Adult Process Group

A safe, supportive space to process your emotions and
connect with yourself and others, deeply

Young Adult Process Group

About our YAPG group :)

Young adulthood can be an exciting time and it comes with it’s own set of challenges, from dealing with loneliness and making new friends to feelings of self doubt and uncertainty as you navigate school or “first real job”.

It can feel overwhelming trying to navigate this all on your own. In our Young Adult Process Group, you will find connection in sharing your struggles with others going through similar experiences, learn ways to care for your mental health, and leave feeling empowered through supporting others. Possible topics could include relationships, work stress, depression, anxiety, or exploring your identity.

This group is participant driven, meaning members get to choose the topics they wish to discuss and receive emotional support in a safe and non judgmental space, all under the guidance of a licensed professional counselor.

While there is no set topic, themes often arise and based on those themes and group preferences we may incorporate a variety of tools and resources such as mindfulness, building coping skills, and bibliotherapy (where we collectively choose a book to read). Bibliotherapy can be used to help increase awareness, better understand our emotions, build empathy, and learn how to think more flexibly about our difficulties.

This is a group of 5-8 group members, plus the therapist. Since it is an ongoing group, please feel free to reach out to us if you are interested in joining!

Who will benefit from this group?

This group is for young adults and college students who may be new to the DMV, or are feeling isolated, and seeking connection. This group would be a great fit for someone looking for emotional support as they adjust to life transitions and cope with the stressors that life can naturally bring as it relates to college, graduate school, work, exploring their identity, and relationships. Support can look like talking and listening, so if you’re feeling nervous about opening up that’s okay! You get to choose the pace you feel comfortable with. So whether you’re navigating a new chapter in your life, caring for your mental health, seeking community, or personal growth, this group offers a space to meet you where you’re at and help you feel less alone. This is a place where you can feel supported and empowered to try out new skills to navigate life’s challenges during this time of adjustment.

“Everyone was so welcome with open arms, it made me feel a sense of belonging, something i had never really felt anywhere else before...These were the people that have made such an impact on my life. They have helped me feel so much less alone. They really have been there for me when everyone else hasn’t particularly played a special role in my life. I’ve made a connection to people, people that understand me and what it’s like to go through what i’ve gone through. These are my people. when I go to group i feel whole... Thank you for having such an impressive impact on me and my future. i am eternally grateful.”
