Addiction and
Substance Use Concerns

Gain Freedom and Hope Again

You’re struggling and in an enormous amount of pain.

You see every flaw, every mistake, every time you’ve let someone down. You replay the moments you wish you could take back. You tell yourself you should be different. You look in the mirror and wish you could change what you see. Beneath it all are unresolved wounds that cut deep. For a while, the drink, the pill, or the escape makes it quiet. But when it wears off, the ache is still there, heavier than before. You feel stuck in a cycle but don’t know how to break it. You feel trapped in it. You want to be free but don’t know how and you feel more hopeless over time.

Love Yourself Again:
Therapy for Addiction
and Substance Use

If you’ve been struggling with addiction or substance use, know that you’re not alone. Many people turn to substances not because they’re weak, but because they’re trying to pain that feels too heavy to carry alone. At Hope+Wellness, we understand that beneath the symptoms of addiction often lie years of self-doubt, shame, or unhealed wounds.

We offer therapy for individuals throughout Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., who want to find their way back to themselves — to remember that healing is possible, and that life can feel full again.

Rediscovering What’s Real

We all go through times of struggle. The most important thing is understanding that it’s through the struggle that we can begin to find ourselves again — to reconnect to what is real and whole within us.

Hope+Wellness is a practice grounded in genuineness, authenticity, and kindness. It’s a space where you can show up as you are, feel supported for whatever you’re carrying, and begin to rebuild a life of joy and meaning again.

Common Concerns We Help With

Our therapists have supported people navigating addiction, challenges with substance use, and recovery, including:

  • Using substances to numb pain or escape emotions

  • Feeling like an imposter despite major accomplishments

  • Struggling with emotional intimacy or connection

  • Processing old wounds, trauma, and grief

  • Feelings of loneliness, disconnection, or emptiness

  • Searching for love or validation in external places

  • Shame, guilt, and self-criticism

  • Difficulty accepting or trusting one’s body or identity

  • Anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts

  • Attachment and abandonment concerns

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or your partner

Healing Through Connection

If you can relate to any of the above, please know that you’re not broken at all — just deeply human, and that you don’t have to face this alone. Therapy can help you make sense of what you’re feeling, gain insight into patterns that no longer serve you, and develop new, healthier ways to cope and connect.

In therapy with us, you’ll build a genuine, trusting relationship with your therapist — one grounded in compassion and honesty. Together, you’ll explore the emotional roots of your substance use, understand what drives the need for relief, and begin to heal the parts of you that have been hurting for too long. Through evidence-based approaches and a deeply human connection, we’ll help you find your way back to balance, clarity, and a renewed sense of yourself.

A space where you can totally be yourself

At Hope+Wellness, we’re passionate about creating a therapeutic space that is human, authentic, and deeply supportive — where you feel deeply cared for and seen. We believe healing begins with presence — where you feel accepted and allowed to be yourself here, exactly as you are.
