Therapy for college students

Because even though you’re on your own, you’re not alone in this

Life is tough — tougher than you ever imagined.

You’re on your own now but sometimes you wish you weren’t. You miss home sometimes, but you’re not sure what this means because there are times when you can’t wait to get away. You couldn’t wait to go to college, but now that you are there, you can’t seem to find your place. You miss your friends, your family, everything you’ve ever known.

The future is uncertain and you don’t know if you are making the right steps toward it. Around you, every one else seems to know what they want. But you’re not sure where you might fit in. You feel panic at thoughts of the future and graduation. How will you possibly prepare for life completely on your own? You feel uncertain as to where your life will lead and what you should be doing. It feels like there are so many should’s in life and you can’t help but feel burdened by all of them. Your friends get it sometimes, but more often than not they are busy doing their own thing. You’re not sure who to go to about these increasing feelings of anxiety, depression, and overwhelm.

Find home again, except this time, within yourself

Therapy for college students in Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC

It’s confusing to know which way to go sometimes, whether you will ever feel as if you are enough or what to do with your life. You’re not alone in feeling this way. At Hope + Wellness, we work with many young adults in college, post graduation, grad school, and in their 20s and early 30s, to provide a safe, supportive space to help them figure out how to navigate this thing called life. All of us experience stress and adversity at some point in our lives and it’s difficult when it’s the first time we’ve gone through anything like this. Therapy is a healthy way for you to take care of yourself and begin developing insights to thrive and live your best life even in the face of difficult events and decisions, depression, anxiety, and stress.

I walked over to the hill where we used to go and sled. There were a lot of little kids there. I watched them flying. Doing jumps and having races. And I thought that all those little kids are going to grow up someday. And all of those little kids are going to do the things that we do. And they will all kiss someone someday. But for now, sledding is enough. I think it would be great if sledding were always enough, but it isn’t.

Growing apart doesn’t change the fact that for a long time we grew side by side; our roots will always be tangled. I’m glad for that.
